Today’s lesson was on styling and media and we learnt how to shoot posters. After the teacher showed us some examples, we started to work in groups on the theme of bags. We had difficulties in preparing the props for the shoot because another student and I did not have enough props. We made a lot of attempts in post-production and finally shot our finished product in a more pioneering way. In the post-processing, I did some hand-painting on my photos to try to make them more interesting.
During this course, I learnt the importance of collaborative communication. During my shoot, my partner couldn’t quite capture the feeling I wanted, resulting in a less-than-ideal finished film. In my next teamwork, I will be more aware of communicating with my group members.
PPD Questions:
1:How did you go about learning about other ideas/ ways of doing things?
First I will talk to people and ask for details of what I want to know. I also present my ideas in as much detail as I can. Then I will watch the process of taking them from idea to finished product, how each person implements the idea in a different way, how they make changes and how they present it in the way they want, which is also a reflection of their ideas. At the same time, I will work with them to communicate as much as possible and share ideas.
2:What did you do when outcomes might have been different from your expectations?
Firstly, if there is time left, I try to see if I can re-shoot them again. If I don’t have the time, I’ll try to rework the theme from existing photos to see if they have the right style, and if they do, I’ll try to make them interesting again by post-processing them. If I don’t have a consistent style, I will try to make a collage by dividing the image into small sections and taking the elements I can use. There are many ways to do this, just keep the mind active.
3:What might you need to do or follow up as a result of this workshop?
At the end of this photo shoot, it wasn’t quite where I wanted it to be. I felt that the style and outfit were not very consistent and did not express the look I wanted to show. So after the class, I will use post-processing to hopefully make these images more interesting. Firstly, I adjusted the filters on the images and added a very personal hand-drawn element. I separated the characters from the background and re-collaged the characters to make the whole image look more interesting and stylistic.
