Today we learnt about branding and marketing and we discussed some of the hot topics in fabrics that are popular at the moment. These include eco-friendly, handmade, digital fabrics and more. This lesson made me feel the diversity of design and the natural, human and social issues involved in the design. It gave me some more perspectives on fashion brands. We learnt about USP and gained an insight into the selling point of products, which will provide a good foundation for future branding and marketing.

PPD Questions:

1:How did you go about speaking with your unknown classmates/group members?

As I am very outgoing myself, I can easily make new friends. So when meeting new students, I usually take the initiative and start the conversation with some small questions. I listen carefully to what people say and try to make some eye contact during the conversation, I look for topics that we can all get involved in, I chat a bit to bring us closer together and I share some of my little things with my classmates so that I can get to know them quickly and get a good start on the year!

2:What did you do if your team didn’t want to implement your idea?

First of all, I don’t feel bad because it is, after all, an assignment shared by several people. But I will try to explain why I want to use this idea, what the advantages of this idea are and what we can achieve if we choose this. I will also ask why people don’t like the idea and I will accept it if it is reasonable enough. If someone comes up with a better idea, I will think about how my idea compares to it and how I can persuade people in the future.

3:What did you do to make sure your ideas were understood?

In order to make my points better understood, I usually choose to speak in a more logical way. For example, I use words like firstly and secondly so that people can get the point of what I am saying. At the same time, I try to explain my ideas in as much detail as possible, and to clarify any points that are not easy to understand. If people have questions, I will be patient and explain. After the presentation, I can discuss and communicate with people to see if they really understand what I am trying to say, and if there are any inaccuracies, I can add to them.
