Today we have learnt how to draw an illustration, what style to choose to highlight the product, what colours to use and what parts to add to make the whole look more beautiful. I didn’t have any ideas at the beginning of the class, but I got into the swing of things in the middle and later stages.
I was never that confident in my design, but after talking to Giles, his encouragement gave me more motivation to finish my work.
PPD Questions:
1:How is my work style different from that of my classmates?
I think what makes my painting different from others is that I have not trained in professional painting skills. My personal style is not limited by some inherent techniques, resulting in a more accessible and versatile painting. I can create images with a strong personal touch, and although there is no technical skill involved, the overall result should be a fresh look. The ugliness of it all is a personal touch.
2:How do I respond when offered both positive and negative feedback?
I think both good and bad comments are subjective to each person’s opinion, and in terms of artistic creation and aesthetics, I don’t think there is a right answer. When I hear a good review, I don’t feel completely satisfied with my work just because of that, because only when I am really personally satisfied with the work and can do my best to the maximum extent is it what I consider to be good work. I don’t feel sad or lost if I hear a bad review, I can listen to different opinions and avoid limiting myself too much to my own. Hearing different opinions is also a source of inspiration and picking out advice that I can apply to make my work better as well.
3:Why is working by hand still so important in 2022?
I think the handmade and factory-made presentations are very different. Many of the steps in the hand-made process become more complex and elaborate. More intricate elements and details can be added, such as embroidery or leatherwork. These handmade products will have greater attention to detail and a lower tolerance for error, which is also a test of the craftsman’s skills. At the same time, I think there are many effects that can only be achieved by hand, for example in the case of the brand’s high-fashion dresses, where many different elements are blended together, and handcrafting leaves a lot of room for alterations.
