Today we have learned how to analyze a designer’s work for a season, how to describe it more precisely, and in what way to discuss the designer’s work. We also learned how to recreate themes based on the work we analyzed. The whole process was a good exercise in analysis and application.

Today we had two time-limited tasks to complete within the time limit, but I found that I was not very efficient and had difficulty completing the work required by the teacher within the time limit. I hope to become more proficient in learning analytical skills and apply them in my future studies.

PPD Questions:

1:How might you now view a designer collection differently?

I think I shouldn’t just focus on the visual effect of the product now. I can understand the collection itself in the context of the designer’s background, his inspiration, and the idea he wants to express by making the product. When analyzing the collection, I can also look at specific aspects such as the style, the structure of the garment, the colors used, the fabrics used, the theme, the audience, and the impression value of the collection. In this way, you can better understand the artistic and commercial value of the collection and get to know the designer and his work more concretely and comprehensively.

2:What were some of your limitations when designing a sneaker?

I encountered a lot of difficulties when designing the sneaker. I have not done any systematic study of drawing myself, so I made a lot of attempts to depict the shoe shape. I also got confused when it came to extracting the concept of the designer’s work that I had chosen and did not reflect the designer’s style very well when designing. This is something that I have not done well enough. And there were many technical shortcomings and mistakes in the post-painting, which resulted in a less-than-ideal final presentation. In my next studies, I should accumulate more painting skills and find my own personal painting style.

3:Why is accessory design in fashion just as important as clothing? 

I think if the clothes make a great first impression, the accessories can do the same. Accessories may not be as practical as clothes, but they are no less visually appealing and artistically expressive. Accessories play an important role in fashion in terms of how to use them to better reflect the beauty of the human body and how to match them to clothes. A good accessory design can make people ignore the clothes and focus on a certain part of the body. Smaller and more precise designs make it more difficult to design accessories, yet they are an important part of the workmanship, construction, and materials. Even on the simplest of T-shirts, a good accessory design can add an extra layer of personal style. This is why accessories are such an integral part of the fashion industry.
